Disney & Family Vacations

We had such a wonderful time on our family vacation.  From our transfers to our hotel check-in and throughout our vacation, everything was taken care of and planned to a T!  We had all the information we needed to have an excellent vacation and when you're traveling with 3 grand-children, that is incredibly important!  Reserving our vacation with your agency was simple and we won't think twice about doing it again!

Kids Programs on Cruise Lines PDF Print E-mail

Recently, we had a client that wanted us to give them some information on the children's programs across the  cruise lines.  Someone told them that they all have children's programs and that they are all the same.  Here's the answer:  yes, most of the major cruise lines have children's programs (the ones that you'd want to take your kids on anyway), but NO, they are not all the same.  Keep in mind that each cruise line has it's own identity and target market, so therefore, the level of kids programs are going to be different.  Here's a breakdown of what you'll find on two of the major family cruise lines, keeping in mind that some programs may change by ship and itinerary.

Disney Cruise Line: This cruise line has the most extensive program for kids, as you would expect.  The most wonderful thing about the Disney Cruise Line is that it gives you a little bit of a different vacation than going to the parks. . . .the parents can have one too!  LOL.  We always joke that although the Disney Parks are an incredible vacation, for those that have younger children, they are also a WORKING vacation.  On the cruise line, your children are ENTERTAINED in the kids clubs, from 9am to midnight, if you wish, so there's more of an opportunity for adult time.  Here are a few notes on the Disney Cruise Line Children's Program.  Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of the programming on board.

  • Nursery:  Flounder's Reef and It's A Small World Nurseries provide care for children 3 months to 3 years and is open at various times daily for an additional charge.  Reservations must be made in advance.
  • Kids 3 - 10:  Disney's Oceaneer Club and Lab offer a wealth of activities including themed play spaces, computer banks, reading area, games, play structures and more.  Children are invited to enjoy lunch and dinner at the Oceaneer Club, as well as have snacks and beverages.  This program is available 9a - midnight.
  • Kids 11 - 14:  The Edge is a lounge exclusive to tweens featuring high tech fun, a huge video wall, and great activities like their own opportunity to create an improv comedy show or to make their own karaoke video!  This program is open 10a - midnight.
  • Kids 14 - 17:  The Vibe is the teen indoor/outdoor hang out designed to let teens kick back and make new friends.  With a coffee bar, high tech room and a DJ/dance area, your teens can catch a movie, play games or dance the night away.  Teens can also participate in movie productions, partake in science experiments, and lounge on the sundeck, all chaperoned by some of the coolest counselors at sea.  This program is available 11a - 2a.
Royal Caribbean also has a great program, featuring the DreamWorks characters on some of their larger ships.  Their kids program is called Adventure Ocean and here's some information.
  • Babies 6m - 36m: Parents and their babies are invited to join Royal Babies & Royal Tots which offers interactive classes held in one of the ship's lounges. This program is available on all ships, but does vary based on ship and itinerary. A nursery is also available for your children at a per hour charge on some ships.
  • Children 3 - 5 Years: Available on all ships, the Aquanauts program is available select hours throughout the day, depending on whether you are in port or at sea. The program includes art projects from Crayola, storytime, activities on the cruise line's private islands, and much more.
  • Children 6 - 9 Years: Available on all ships, the Explorers have all kinds of exciting activities like scavenger hunts, science experiments, adventure art with Craola and much more. Again, this program is available during select hours of the day, depending on whether you are in port or at sea.
  • Children 9 - 11 Years: Voyagers aboard Royal Caribbean ships have a great time learning and making new friends. Among other things, they have incredible featured learning experiences about fossils, volcanoes, and the motion of the ocean. There are great games and theme activities like a Reggae Beach Party, scavenger hunts and backstage tours too!
  • Teens 12-17 Years: Teens can check out games, sports and parties when they want to in the lounge that is open throughout the day and from 1030p - 2a each night. With theme nights, improv games, dive-in movies, competitions, karaoke and more, your teens are sure to have fun.
